Differences in Recognition

Now that I am thinking about it, it makes sense that there would be difference in programs for voice recognition. There are some programs that could detect pitch or tone while other programs probably pick up on inflections in the voice. I wonder how many different programs are out there and available that include a wide variety of recognition services. I see how it would be relatively easy to pick a program that specializes in one of the components and as you add more features of course then the prices would become a bit expensive because of the technology used to implement all the differences.
