New gadgets

I have hundreds of photos on my computer and i am suppose to be getting one of the new digital photography frames for Christmas from my boyfriend. But i was reading about them and i read somewhere that the pictures have to be on a photo card like out of your digital camera. can i not transfer my photos from my computer to the frame? or plug my camera right into it? anyone know anything about these new gadgets? i have to confess i’m a bit of a luddite.
