The Truth about POKEN?

St. Maarten student wins Innovation CompetitionALMERE/GUANA BAY–St. Maartener Quincy Turner (18) won an Innovation Competition in the Netherlands on April 3,2008. He and his fellow entrepreneur and classmate Fransie Becker started their company YNA Enterprise recently and entered the competition together. YNA stands for Young New Association.

The students immediately set the bar for the competition with their innovative idea of the “Poken.” A “Poken” is a digital business card in the form of a USB stick with one’s contact and business information on it. One can connect it to a computer or another Poken and upload and download information about one’s business or oneself on it as well.

They patented the concept of the “Poken” and their business is starting off well, as they received an offer from a company for 700 of the digital business cards. They are also talking to large franchise companies like McDonald’s to start using their innovative gadget.

During the competition, all the participants had to come up with a way to promote one’s product and give sales pitches to the best of their ability. Quincy and Fransie won first place because of their innovative idea and hard work. They were awarded more points than the first and second runners-up together. The boys received 500 euros and a large shiny cup for winning.

Quincy Turner was born and raised in St. Maarten. He attended Sundial School and lived in Guana Bay until he moved to Almere, the Netherlands, at 16. He has a government scholarship and studies Business Administration. His father Calvin Turner still lives in Guana Bay and is very proud of his son Quincy and his friend Fransie, “I am very proud of all four of my sons, too, actually,” he said.

So it looks as if at least the basic idea has been taken over by Poken S.A. and only the special technology for the data transfer has been developed later for Mr. Doutriaux. It explains why The Netherlands is the centre for Poken users so far.

But who really cares – main thing that these new cool gadgets are on their way to make it big and that we can buy them online like for example here at http://www.get-a-poken.de
