Are There Any Particular Labrador Health Problems

I have just purchased a puppy and would like to know the best place to find out about labrador health problems.  Obviously I hope nothing ever happens andhe will be taken regularly to the vets for injections and check-ups but it would be nice to know what kind of thing to look out for.  For example to Labrador’ssuffer from ailments which don’t affect other dogs or are they especially susceptible to certain kinds of illness?  Someone told me that Labs quite often suffer from problems with their legs and hips.  Is this correct and if so what is the best way to prevent any problems?
