Who should get tested?

There seems to be a bit of an epidemic with kids now in regards to allergies. Almost every kid we meed at play dates seems to be allergic to something or other, and some of them seem to be allergic to everything. So far I haven’t come across anything my kids are allergic to. How do you know whether you should get your kids tested for allergies? Will they do allergy testing on a kid if their parents have certain allergies, or do they have to show symptoms or a reaction when they are exposed to something before they will do the testing?
